are also used in the production of the automotive supplier industry. Here our RFID readers are used to describe the tags that are on the manufactured products,
in order to be able to check whether and when all stations have been passed. That is the reason, why we call them also RFID writers.
What is RFID?
RFID is an abbreviation for "Radio Frequency Identification" and refers to a technology in which digital data encoded in RFID tags or smart labels
detected by a reader via radio waves. RFID is similar to bar coding in that data from a tag or label is captured by a device that stores the data in a database.
However, RFID offers several advantages over systems that use barcode systems. Most notably, RFID tag data can be read and write without visual contact, while barcodes have to be scanned with an optical scanner.

How does RFID work?
RFID belongs to a group of technologies known as automatic identification and data acquisition. RFID systems automatically identify objects, collect data about them and enter this data directly into computer systems with little or no human intervention. RFID processes use radio waves for this. On a simple level, RFID modules consist of three components: an RFID tag or smart label, an RFID reader/writer and an antenna. RFID tags contain an integrated circuit and an antenna with which data is transmitted to the RFID reader. The reader then converts the radio waves into a more usable form of data. Information collected from the tags is then transmitted via a communication interface to a computer system, where the data can be stored in a database and analyzed. Minova offers various models for this, from simple readers to complex and independently working complete modules.
RFID tags and smart labels
As indicated before, an RFID tag consists of an integrated circuit and an antenna. The label is also made of a protective material, that holds the parts together and protects them from different environmental conditions. The protective material depends on the application. For example, there are employee ID cards, that contain RFID tags, usually made of durable plastic, and the tag is embedded between the plastic layers. RFID tags come in different forms and sizes and they are either passive or active. Passive tags are the most used because they are smaller and less expensive to implement. Passive tags must be activated by the RFID reader before they can transmit data. In contrast to passive tags, active RFID tags have an integrated power supply (e.g. a battery), which enables them to transfer data at any time. Smart labels differ from RFID tags in that they use both RFID and barcode technologies together. They consist of an adhesive label in which an RFID tag inlay is embedded, and they can also contain a barcode and / or other printed information. Smart labels can be encoded and printed using desktop label printers if required.
